Dash Kostka for Parliamentarian

Hello members! My name is Dash Kostka, and I am running for UDems Parliamentarian.

I'm running because I believe I have demonstrated a high level of competence and deep commitment to UDems to be this organization's chief rules-enforcement officer.

Having nearly completed my first year at Texas, I can say definitively that joining University Democrats was one of the best decisions I have ever made during my time in college.

Whenever someone asks me why I am so committed to being involved in politics, I give them the same answer: Because I want to be able to look at my future kids in the eye and tell them that when fascism came for America, I proudly stood against it with every bone in my body.

Having endured a full semester under this terrifying Trump presidency, it can be a stuggle to find the light in a time of such great darkness. But nonetheless, I remain optimistic, and here's why:

UDems was founded in 1953, one of the single-worst years to be a Democrat in the post-Depression 20th century. Republicans had just taken back the presidency, the House, and the Senate, and the Red Scare was cutting down progressive causes across the nation. But just 12 years later, our nation had in short succession elected President Kennedy, elected the first Texan president, passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, and created Medicare and Medicaid.

But those successes didn't happen on their own. They came true because liberals and progressives across the country who had been knocked down stood themselves back up, dusted the dirt, blood, and tears off their chest, and went back into the fight.

UDems origin story is one of getting back up and never surrendering! And as this organization's Parliamentarian, you can count on me to push forward through thick and thin.
